Roger Martinez scored 20 goals in 43 games for Jiangsu Suning.

Villarreal have agreed a deal to sign Colombian striker Roger Martinez from Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning.

Jiangsu made the announcement on the club’s official social media account on Sunday, thanking the 23-year-old for his contribution during his 18-month spell in China.

No financial details of the transfer were announced.

“We would like to thank Martinez for his dedication, his goals and his wonderful performances,” the club statement said. “We would like to wish him all the best in his new environment and that he can show his talent and his strength on a new stage. All the best.”

Villarreal later confirmed an agreement to take the player until the end of the season with a purchase option in the summer.

Martinez joined Jiangsu in 2016 from Racing Club and, in 43 official matches with the club, scored 20 times.

He was a key factor in Jiangsu finishing as runners-up in the 2016 Chinese Super League and Chinese FA Cup, with the club qualifying for the AFC Champions League for the first time.
